Ahhhh, we’re so excited to welcome back some of the best from Boston to our stage! We’ll have live music from Good Company, and plus calling from local favorite, Maia McCormick!
Good Company one of the fastest rising contra bands in New England. They draw their material from Irish, Scottish, New England, and Quebecois folk traditions, as well as original material heavily influenced by those traditions. The band includes Helen Kuhar on guitar and vocals, Cecily Mills on Cello and vocals, and Rohan Weeden on Fiddle. They bring the playfulness and dance-ability that hallmarks good contra dance music to all of their performances, regardless of venue.
Maia is a contradance caller and choreographer based in New York City. She calls around the Northeast and beyond, at festivals, dance camps/weekends, and regular dances alike (including, to name a few: Queer Contra Dance Camp, ESC Week at Pinewoods, Youth Dance Weekend, Dawn Dance, LCFD Spring Dance Camp, and the NEFFA festival).
As a choreographer, Maia strives to write dances that are both compelling and idiomatic. Her dances have made it into some other people’s collections, and have been called as far afield as California and Alaska.
