Friends!!! Please Join Brooklyn Contra and the Old Stone House for a foray into folk dance beyond Contra with a day of Percussive Dance workshops and an evening concert! 

We’ll be joined by three amazingly talented performers for the day: Aniya Danée, recently returned from the international tour of Hamilton, for an Introduction to Tap Dance; and the duo of Nic Gareiss and Simon Chrisman for an Introduction to Appalachian Flat Footing. The evening will conclude with a concert featuring Nic’s exquisite blend of Irish, Appalachian, English, and Canadian percussive dance melding in conversation with Simon’s enchanting hammer dulcimer.

Introduction to Tap For Everyone!

Join us for an afternoon of introduction to tap dance. This 75-min class is a welcoming opportunity explore tap fundamentals under the tutelage of internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Aniya Danée.

About the Artists

Aniya Danée (she/her) is a Black, queer tap dance artist who was born-and-raised in New York. In October of 2022, she was cast as “The Bullet” in the award winning musical Hamilton—a role that had been a dream of hers since she was a young dancer at Michelle Ferraro’s Dance USA. Shortly after debuting in her first company of the show, Aniya was offered to join the first International Tour Of Hamilton, where she traveled to the Philippines, United Arab Emirates, and Singapore to continue telling this incredible story. Aniya was most recently touring with the Angelica Company of Hamilton. She is also a choreographer at MFDUSA, in addition to many other studios on Long Island. Her credits include: Amateur Night at The Apollo, Debbie Allen’s Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, 42nd Street, After Midnight, and The Tap Dance Kid. @aniyyaaa // www.aniyadanee.com
