Let’s Make a Dance Together!

Friends! We're so excited to have you at Brooklyn Contra! You've probably found this page because you've reached out to us (or us to you) about playing Brooklyn Contra! As we go forward we thought we'd take a second to say what makes us really really happy to book you multiple times.

We look for bands that:

Are good self promoters (have a one page website, some nice photos/videos and a little facebook/instagram account and will post about playing the dance to help turn folks out).
Play uptempo tunes with strong base lines and a few stupid contra tricks thrown in (so pop song arrangements, or just playing with the dancers etc.) that match our youngish audience.
Make life easy on us technically (have a detailed sound plot (and even better a graphic one rather than a text one), show up on time for soundcheck etc.)

We know that is sort of a lot to ask for what is often a labor of love for all of us but we see a world where contra dance and contra musicians (and participatory folk culture more broadly) attracts far more attention from participants, media, and society broadly than it currently does, and helping us promote you, and please our audience is a big part of making that happen!
