Ahhhh, we’re closing out our Summer Saturday Series with the best NYC has to offer, with Some Assembly Required’s hot quartet, plus calling from Julian Blechner!!
The Some Assembly Required Trio brings the energy of NYC's best musicians to the Brooklyn Contra stage. Headlined by Matthew Christian's Irish fiddling, you never know who'll show up, from folks fresh of the Broadway or Grand Ol Opry stage to a harmonious cello or a trombone playing mandolin picker.
This week Matthew Christian's signature busker's fiddle sound is joined by the rhythm guitar of Matt Diaz, Wendy Scher’s klezmer influenced saxophone, and the jazz club percussion of Jerome Morris. Plus we'll have our very own horn section with two saxophonists, and a bevy of Brooklyn's best up and coming players as part of our open band!
Julian Blechner is a seasoned contra and set dance caller based in Western Massachusetts. He has been calling dances since 2011, from festivals like the New England Folk Festival and Flurry to series dances of all sizes from Maine to the Middle Atlantic. Julian enjoys calling for all skill levels of dancers, and specializes in creating fun evenings with varied and engaging choreography for whatever the crowd is up for! He brings a cheerful, friendly attitude with clear, concise teaching and prompting.
