Fall is coming (we hope) and with it colder weather, so we’re welcoming Cozy Socks to our stage for some live tunes! Plus calling from Maia McCormick!
A new band born from the Brooklyn contra and session scene, The Cozy Socks features the cheerful playing of Alex Richey, Ben Graubart, and Rebecca Sohn. With Alex on the keyboard and Ben and Rebecca rocking twin fiddles, the Cozy Socks deliver a unique and eclectic take on contra dance music drawing from Celtic, Jazz, and folk sources of all stripes—a danceable concoction that will knock the cozy socks right off of your feet.
I am a contradance caller and choreographer based in New York City. I call around the Northeast and beyond, at festivals, dance camps/weekends, and regular dances alike (including, to name a few: Queer Contra Dance Camp, ESC Week at Pinewoods, Youth Dance Weekend, Dawn Dance, LCFD Spring Dance Camp, and the NEFFA festival).
As a choreographer, I strive to write dances that are both compelling and idiomatic. My dances have made it into some other people’s collections, and have been called as far afield as California and Alaska.
