Summer LGBT Barn Dance Social at the Queens Botanical Garden

  • Queens Botanical Garden 43-45 Main Street Flushing, NY 11355 United States (map)

Come out to Queens Botanical Garden for an evening of LGBTQ+ joy with NYC's most approachable social dance! We’ll have live music from the Big Apple Contra Band and calling from Sunny Lawrence!

Tickets Available Here!

Join Brooklyn Contra for a summer celebration of Appalachian folk with a Barn Dance to live music. All dances will be taught and appropriate for adults and kids 8 and up, no experience necessary! This event is open to all with a focus on celebrating queer community in Queens. LGBTQ+ folks, friends, family, allies, or anyone excited to dance together are all welcome.

Contra is an easy-to-learn folk dance (similar to square dancing with some swing dance flair) that comes with a free lesson and amazing live tunes! Originating in northern Appalachia based on English and French formal dances, contra is now danced around the country by multi-generational communities. Bringing a partner isn't necessary as folks switch partners between each dance. This group dance is entirely gender-nonconforming and anyone of any gender can dance any part they want! The QBG bar will be open and available selling fun drinks and refreshments.
