Join Brooklyn Contra as we dance in the year as part of Solstice in the Park! Solstice in the Park is a free, volunteer-spun celebration of midsummer magic, where song drifts through the trees, dancers twirl like sunlight on water, and pageantry blooms wild and bright. Together, we’ll greet the turning of the stars, kindle an age-old spirit of merry revelry, and weave a little more community into the world.
Gather by 5pm at Prospect Park's Willink Plaza entrance (Flatbush Ave at Empire Blvd). Dancing at Concert Grove around 6:00 PM. Full schedule below.
Timeline of Festivities
4-5 PM: GATHER
Meet at Prospect Park's Willink Plaza entrance (Flatbush Ave at Empire Blvd). Look for our merry Solstice banner fluttering like a beacon!
5 PM: PARADE
The procession begins! We’ll parade into the park toward Concert Grove Pavilion.
5:30 PM: PAGEANT
A Mythic Pageant unfolds with puppets, stories, and a touch of enchantment, followed by joyful folk dances for all with Brooklyn Contra and live musicians.
6 PM ‘til the fireflies take over:
Picnicking, workshops from Brooklyn Public Library's University Open Air faculty of immigrant scholars, & whatever magic the evening decides
8 PM: SOUND MEDITATION
As the sun sets on the longest day, we'll gather to settle into the rhythm of the new season, and enjoy a peaceful moment of reflection, renewal, and connection under the open sky.
