BkC Work Day At Mary House

  • Mary House 55 East 3rd Street New York, New York, 10003 United States (map)

Friends! This summer and fall, Brooklyn Contra is partnering to put on some concerts at the NYC Catholic Worker on the Lower East Side. We’ll be putting on a benefit concert on August 21st, a concert and sing with Emma Azelborn and Paper Plane on September 25th, and more!

But first we have to get the hall looking beautiful, so we’re hosting a work day at this early 19th-century music hall to get it spiffed up!

We’ll have lots of jobs for people with construction skills and without! Painting, cleaning, plastering, organizing! You can sign up here to let us know you’re coming!

We’ll provide lunch and cold drinks, and all find a spot for dinner afterward!

About The Catholic Workers in NYC:

The Catholic Workers (CW) are a 90-year-old movement founded to advance Catholic social teachings (read: Catholic Anarchists, but not actually officially affiliated with the Catholic Church). Today they run more than 70 houses of hospitality across the country, including two in New York City. The NYC CW owns their houses (Mary and Joseph), which serve as a base for their combination of good works and activism, such as a soup kitchen (and Food Not Bombs), providing housing to local folks in need, lots of protest organizing, and providing space for leftist Christian organizations to host events. Mary House, at 55 E. 3rd St., was formerly the 3rd Street Music Settlement School in the heart of the Lower East Side, and has a beautiful concert hall able to hold 150 people.
