A Contra Dance for All!

  • Camp Friendship 339 8th Street Brooklyn, NY, 11215 United States (map)

Join us for the NYC debut of this amazing Boston band, The Second Floor featuring Cecilia Vacanti, and calling from Daniel Levine!

The Second Floor is a contra dance band from Somerville, MA. Consisting of Abe Joyner-Meyers on guitar, Steven Bluestein on woodwinds, and Cecily Mills on cello, they use a "Just Add Fiddle" strategy for their performances. These three delight in backing up Boston's finest contra dance fiddlers, and are pleased to bring Cecilia Vacanti to the spotlight.

Cecilia Vacanti is a multi-style fiddler based in Boston, MA. She plays fiddle music for dances, and has a strong foundation in pop, rock and jazz, as well as in improvisation and tune-writing. A graduate of Berklee College of music, Cecilia has studied under bluegrass legend Darol Anger, jazz virtuoso Jason Anick and Scottish fiddler/jazz violinist Jeremy Kittel.

Cecilia’s distinctive sound and imaginative improvisation makes her a sought-after collaborator for folk dances all over the Northeast. She was a founding member of indie-folk group Old Tom & the Lookouts, and she currently plays in the electrifying, nationally touring contra dance band Kingfisher, as well as up-and-coming dance band The Star Charters. She can be heard on several of local singer-songwriter Jessye DeSilva's recording projects, and she has shared stages with Mariachi star Veronica Robles, Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls, Aoife O’Donovan, Adeem The Artist, Simon Shaheen, Lucius, and The 8-Bit Big Band.
