Join us for a getting ready for Dance Flurry workshop with Maia McCormick and live music from the High Strung. Lots of people think that the “best” dancers are the ones who do the fanciest flourishes, but we know better: they’re the ones doing un-flashy and fascinating work of keeping the dance working and keeping their fellow dancers safe. Come learn the skills to help struggling dancers, straighten lines, and keep your set together: become Contra Superglue (and have fun while doing it!). Advanced Dance to follow!
Just a note: This workshop is not suitable for beginner dancers (but if you’re coming to the advanced dance you'll be fine)
High Strung is a vibrant new four-piece from Philadelphia. With foot-stomping reels, pulsing marches, and soaring jigs, High Strung blends Celtic, Canadian, and American folk traditions into an electrifying sound, guaranteed to keep the floor moving until the last waltz.
Maia is a contradance caller and choreographer based in New York City and has called festivals, dance camps, and weekends all over the country. She got her calling start while organizing the Williams College contradance, and has been behind the mic ever since. Maia is known for her accessible and stimulating programming, her dedication to building safe and comfortable dance floors, and her terrible (charming?) puns.
Workshop starts at 6pm with an Advanced Dance to follow at 8pm.
